CHURCH OF SANTA EULÀLIA DE TIMONEDA

In Timoneda, in the same village where the Hotel Japonès Puigpinós is located, you can visit the church of Santa Eulàlia de Timoneda, dating from the beginning of the 11th century, which has undergone several alterations that have caused it to lose its original image. It is a protected and inventoried monument within the Catalan Architectural Heritage.

It consists of a rectangular nave with a barrel vault and several additions. The sacristy was also added later.

It has an important Romanesque style quadrangular bell tower with three levels of openings and a four-slope roof. The third floor is later and the whole complex was restored in 1993.

SOLSONA CATHEDRAL

The cathedral is the main church of the bishopric. Located in Solsona and one of the most important in Catalonia, it is part of a complex of buildings dating from the end of the 12th century to the 18th century, in Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles. The cathedral complex stands out for its religious, cultural and artistic significance.

Of the old Romanesque church, the three apses, the bell tower, the cloister, the cellar and the canons’ dining room, which is the present-day Hall of the Holy Martyrs, are still preserved. The current cathedral is Gothic in style, begun at the end of the 13th century and finished in the 17th century. To the left of the transept is the Chapel of La Mercè, with a Baroque altarpiece. To the right is the chapel where the 12th-century image of the Virgin of the Cloister (patron saint of the city) is venerated, listed as one of the most important sculptures of Catalan Romanesque architecture.

The outer door of the church square is neoclassical (18th century) with a relief of Saint Augustine in ecstasy. In the Plaça de Palau is the Baroque façade of the Assumption (18th century). In the same square is the Episcopal Palace.
